"Portrait of a Young Black Woman No. 1”

Brittnee Renee

Brittnee is a photographer based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This photo series is inspired by medieval and Renaissance paintings, specifically “Portrait of a Young Black Man,” by Maurice Quentin de La Tour (1741). The photos represent the strong women in my life through a contemporary take on classical art that highlights their importance. I chose to show hands holding the frame as a symbol of support from women or others around them. I want other women — Black Women especially — to feel empowered by this photo series and see that they are appreciated and loved.
